Hello again, Mick -

I just wanted to give you some more quotes from Van Til that show that Clark and Robbins sound positively Van Tilian when it comes to Arminians. Here are the Van Til quotes that just came up on the Clark yahoo groups list:

"IF LOGICALLY CARRIED THROUGH, Arminianism is destructive of the very foundation of Christianity. It is not merely on the so-called 'five points of Calvinism' that people of the Reformed persuasion are to be distinguished from those who hold to Arminian teaching. The difference goes, in the last analysis, to the foundation of all Christian belief. HAPPILY, HOWEVER, ARMINIANS ARE USUALLY INCONSISTENT. They separate the work Christ does within us from the work He has done 'without' us, but they do not separate the facts of Bible history from one another. It does not occur to them to separate the resurrection of Christ from the fact that Adam sinned in paradise. Nor do they separate the Bible itself from the facts of which it speaks. It does not occur to them to think of the Bible otherwise than as the infallible Word of God."

" ARMINIANISM, INCONSISTENTLY BUT HAPPILY, TURNS BACK TO GOD after the first step in the direction of human autonomy inasmuch as it believes the creation doctrine; modern psychology has no such limitations and places man in a void."

"WE ARE HAPPY AND THANKFUL, OF COURSE, FOR THE WORK OF WITNESSING DONE BY ARMINIANS. WE ARE HAPPY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT, IN SPITE OF THEIR INCONSISTENCY IN PRESENTING THE CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY, SOMETHING, OFTEN MUCH, OF THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL SHINES THROUGH UNTO MEN, AND THEY ARE SAVED."

How repulsive!

Marc

The following is from a lecture on Thomas Aquinas given in Amarillo, Texas. The cassette tape is distributed through Still Waters Revival Books.

Questioner: "Well, should we be at war with them [Roman Catholics]? It seems to me in one of your books, you mention that Roman Catholicism was the most distorted form of Christianity, yet Christian."

Cornelius Van Til: "Yes, I believe that. ... I know people that I'm sure are saved as well as we are. Like a neighbor of ours -- she was always going to mass and she went to the great festival of St. Mary and she told me about it. Well, I said, 'You don't trust in Mother Mary?' 'On no,' she says, 'I don't, but she's a good way to get to Jesus.'"

Cornelius Van Til [later in the lecture]: "Arminians are good Christians and better-behaved Christians than many a Calvinist."
