There is no question that when Christ atones, it will be 100% effective. If Christ atones and fails to make it effective, then He is a powerless Savior and even a failure.
Arminian people can be saved though they wrongly attribute the source of their faith. Their ignorance does not render the purpose of God ineffective.
"Their ignorance does not render the purpose of God ineffective."
Taken in the context of Jerry's e-mail, this statement implies the following: If all who attribute the source of salvation to their faith rather than to the work of Christ alone are unregenerate, then their ignorance renders the purpose of God ineffective. If God chooses to save someone, he will save that person, even if that person remains ignorant of the only ground of salvation and believes in a powerless, ineffective Savior.
Well, let's apply Jerry's logic to others who are ignorant of some essential gospel doctrine.
Let's take the Jehovah's Witnesses who do not believe in the deity of Jesus Christ.
"There is no question that Jesus Christ is God, God manifested in the flesh, God the Son incarnate. If Jesus Christ is not God, then He is not the Savior. Jehovah's Witnesses can be saved though they wrongly think that Jesus Christ is not God. Their ignorance does not render the purpose of God ineffective."
How does that sound, Jerry? Stupid? Blasphemous?
Does the fact that all who deny Christ's deity are unregenerate mean that the purpose of God is ineffective? When God saves someone, does that person remain ignorant of the deity of Christ?
Of course not. Contrary to Jerry's ignorant quote, when God saves a person, He immediately gives that person a knowledge of the PERSON of Christ and the WORK of Christ, which are essential gospel doctrines. There is no such monstrosity as a saved person who does not know the PERSON of Christ (God-Man Mediator) and the WORK of Christ (His atoning blood and imputed righteousness that demands and ensures the salvation of everyone whom He represented and that is the only ground of salvation).
"And this is everlasting life, that they may KNOW You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent" (John 17:3).
What KNOWLEDGE is involved in KNOWING God and Christ, which is eternal life?
"And you will KNOW the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32).
What is the TRUTH that God's people KNOW that sets them free?
"Gather yourselves and come; draw near together, escaped ones of the nations; the ones who set up the wood of their carved image, and the ones who pray to a god who cannot save; they KNOW nothing" (Isaiah 45:20).
What do these idolaters not KNOW?
"For I testify to them that they have zeal to God, but not according to KNOWLEDGE" (Romans 10:2).
What is this KNOWLEDGE that these zealous religionists are missing?
"But also if our gospel is being hidden, it has been hidden in those being lost, in whom the god of this age has blinded the thoughts of the unbelieving, [so that] the brightness of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God, [should] not dawn on them. For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves your slaves for the sake of Jesus. Because [it is] God who said, Out of darkness Light shall shine, who shone in our hearts to [give the] brightness of the KNOWLEDGE of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:3-6).
What is this BRIGHTNESS to which these lost people are BLINDED? What is the KNOWLEDGE of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ that God has shone in believers' hearts?
"But thanks [be] to God that you were slaves of sin, but you obeyed from [the] heart the form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you were enslaved to righteousness" (Romans 6:17-18).
What is that DOCTRINE that believers believed when they were set free from sin?
To God alone be the glory,
